Former Butambala Member of Parliament Muwanga Kivumbi has reportedly been granted bail after efforts involving religious leaders and representatives of the Buganda Kingdom, bringing relief to his family, supporters, and political allies.

Sources familiar with the matter indicate that behind-the-scenes engagements between respected religious figures and officials from the Buganda Kingdom played a key role in facilitating dialogue that preceded the court's decision to release the former legislator on bail.

Although details of the discussions have not been made public, the intervention is being viewed as an important step toward easing tensions surrounding the case.

Kivumbi's detention had attracted widespread attention across Uganda, with opposition supporters, civil society groups, and human rights advocates calling for his release. His legal team maintained that he had complied with court procedures and met the conditions required for bail.

Outside the court premises, jubilant supporters celebrated the decision, chanting slogans and expressing gratitude to all those they believed had contributed to securing his temporary freedom.

Several political leaders welcomed the ruling, describing it as a victory for the rule of law while emphasizing that the legal process should continue without interference.

Religious leaders who reportedly participated in the consultations have consistently urged all parties to embrace dialogue, peace, and respect for Uganda's judicial institutions. They have also encouraged political actors to avoid actions that could escalate tensions.

The Buganda Kingdom, which has historically played a significant role in promoting reconciliation and social cohesion, is said to have supported efforts aimed at ensuring a peaceful resolution while respecting the independence of the courts.

Although the Kingdom has not publicly disclosed the nature of its involvement, its participation has been widely discussed in political circles.

Despite securing bail, Kivumbi's legal battle is far from over. He is expected to comply with all court-imposed bail conditions and return for future hearings as the case proceeds.

Legal experts note that bail does not determine guilt or innocence but allows an accused person to remain free while trial proceedings continue.
